Thanksgiving is a day for everyone to spend some quality time with family and friends. These get-togethers can either be loads of fun, or can spiral into a night of awkward family fighting.  Either way, these party games apps will help lighten the mood and get everyone laughing again!

Heads Up! This award-winning  game made famous on the Ellen Degeneres show is a must have for any party! Heads Up! is a fun, fast-paced guessing game.  To play the game, one team member holds their phone to their forehead, with the screen facing out so they can’t see it but the rest of the room can.  That team member then has to guess the word on the phone’s screen as their team members give clues. The best part of Heads Up! is that it uses your phone’s camera to capture your team freaking out, so you can all get a laugh at playing it back after an intense round! Heads Up is $0.99 for both iPhone and Android.

BONUS: If you’re not looking to pay for the game, “Charades!” is basically the same game for free (on both iPhone and Android)! This game has ads, but plays the same just without the camera feature and some of the categories.

SketchParty TV. If your family is anything like mine, they absolutely love playing Pictionary. But it can be a hard game to play if you don’t have a large white board or easel sitting around and manage to find working markers! Now, all that hassle is a thing of the past because you can easily play Pictionary at your party with SketchParty TV!  Simply connect your phone to your Apple TV and have your drawings projected on the big screen! The iPhone app comes in both a free version and paid version ($4.99) for those who want more features.

Phrase Party. Finally, our last app is a digital fill-in for a the super popular party game, Catch Phrase. Phrase Party is pretty much the same game as Catch Phrase, but with the words and the timer all in your phone! With Phase Party, you can pass your phone around and play Catch Phrase with no effort at all!  You can choose three modes: Race, Standard or Party.  In Race mode, each team has a set amount of time to guess words until the timer runs out.  The team with the most points wins.  In Standard mode is played like classic Catch Phrase, when one team guesses a word right they then pass to a player on the other team. Finally, in Party mode, the game becomes a free-for-all where there are no teams, whoever has the phone has 25 seconds to explain the word shown, then the phone is passed to the next person. If you still want to be competitive, each right answer will show a score based on how fast it was guessed and these can be recored to determine a winner. This game is $1.99 for iPhone and Android.
